Konzeptlos? That's D.H. and Rainer. [Deutsch?] They have been playing music outside the mainstream at their parties or in bars and clubs since the mid-90s. Many of the raw funk, soul, jazz and traditional sounds on the crackling records they play were little known outside their home region and among connoisseurs [listen] In 2002, they founded Konzeptlos as DJ collective, followed by (legendary outdoor) parties, and in 2014 they launched their concert series ‘Konzeptlos presents’. The audience experience first-hand great, rediscovered artists, legends and up-and-coming musicians from all over the world such as Hailu Mergia, Pat Thomas, L'Eclair, Ebo Taylor, Embryo, Onom Agemo & Ahmed AG Kaedy, ROB, Karl Hector & The Malcouns, Mabiisi, Sanjally Jobarteh...
D.H? He is an artist, DJ and musician. The Konzeptlos party flyers he designs are instantly recognisable. They are the collective’s visual trademark. He co-founded the Kaschemme, built it up and breathed life into it with great passion for eight years. He initiated and supported many a creative project centred on the cultural venue. As part of the ‘Konzeptlos presents’ concert series, many sessions were recorded (with permission). D.H runs a music studio where he and sound engineer Milan Marti master the recordings and then make them available to the bands. This initiative, which is designed to help young music projects in particular gain a foothold, is also highly valued by established bands. For example, Onom Agemo & Ahmed AG Kaedy released the mastered live recording Alghafiat on their. magnificent album "Tartit"
Rainer? He has been DJing out of pure passion since the mid-90s, alone and with DJ friends (Akiwawa, Tropical Six Pack, Plates & Punch). His joy in discovering ‘old music’ – which is new to him – continues unabated. Many of the sounds from the 60s and 80s that he plays were known only to a small circle of connoisseurs outside their region of origin. In Basel in the 90s, like-minded music lovers such as himself organised DIY parties and began to play the acclaimed niche sounds from their mixtapes themselves. Rainer has performed at countless bars and clubs in the city and across Switzerland. His musical gems have also attracted attention far beyond the country's borders, with invitations coming in from Vienna, Beirut, Dakar, London, New York...
He regularly helps labels and bands to re-release their music by providing information on tracks and scans of record covers and labels. In most cases, all that is needed are good-quality recordings, as after 50+ years the master tapes have often gone missing and playable copies are rare. An official re-release of the music helps to distribute it and ensure that the royalties are correctly attributed.
